Poem by Julio Cortazar

I discovered a poem today tweeted by Moving Poems about falling out of love. (That’s right — how many poems are written about that?) It’s beautiful and heartbreaking on it’s own, but that link will take you to a short video directed by Eduardo Yagüe that matches the poem’s sadness and mood perfectly. I’ve embedded the video poem below from Vimeo and also included the English translation that is given in the video.

La Lenta Machina del Desamor (The Slow Machine of Unloving) by Julio Cortazar

The slow engine of unloving,
the gears of ebb,
bodies forsaking pillows,
and sheets, and kisses.
standing face to the mirror inquiring each one to himself,
no longer looking at each other,
no longer bare to the other,
no longer loving you,
my love.
