[POEM] have you ever had your heart broken? Circle yes or no

Have you ever had your heart broken?
Circle yes or no

Always the day after a good day.
She feels her chest harden
when there’s silence in the ether
check and recheck, refresh, swipe
the internet is so noisy, these
@ conversations pound through her ears
like the sound waves of a rock concert

But for her even the proverbial crickets
have given up their mating calls
She sits alone in a twilight paradise
waiting for the crickets to fill the silent
unfollowing that has occurred

She sees the ether is not as quiet
as her heart has become
Even the crickets, in the still of the
twilight, have abandoned her.

She circles “no” and writes below:
“you can’t break something that was never whole.”

But she weeps in her hands and wonders
how many more times she’ll let him
fracture the pieces.
