[POEM] taking the next bus — [updated]

(updated version below image)

[UPDATED]

Taking the next bus

it was the poem on the other side
that made her consider the timetable
encased in dirty plastic, nailed against
the telephone pole, made her wonder
how recent it had been updated.

It was the poem on the other side
that made her consider the body
chalk outline, police tape,
the crowd that had gathered
it wasn’t a gruesome scene exactly
but it made her wince

it was the poem on the other side
that made her consider all of the hopeless
romantics that step blindly into the street
(or not, as the case may be)
all the while missing what is right
in front of them.

it was the poem on the other side
that made her consider the new bus arriving
her hesitation gone unnoticed by the driver
she boarded, greeted the driver with a smile
sat down, sighed, grateful for the accurate timetable
