[POEM] lost in translation

lost in translation

words are often
lost in translation
especially these days
in the age of texting
where relationships are built
without eye contact or physical touch

there were times when you
took my words out of context
misread my tone
to be something else
I wanted to assure you
that was not what I meant

it’s the curse of this form of communication
we make do, correct ourselves
use emojis to display feeling
it works, for the most part

but there are always those moments
I’m not sure you understand
what I’m trying to say
