[POEM] whispered memories and new angles

whispered memories and new angles

today I wanted to just walk
change my pace from the usual run
slow down and feel how this day
differs from all the others

the yellowed wheat grass
whispers memories of stolen moments
those words themselves stolen
from the original usage
a phrase used to describe
what couldn’t be
you can’t steal moments that are given to you
that are yours to keep

as i walked I listened to the sounds beneath my feet
the hiss of dried dead grass
the crunch of a thawing field
i was amazed to see so many leaves
brown and dead against the earth
but still so vibrant

I walked a familiar path
but today I discovered new angles
tucked in old secrets
allowing for my own stolen moments
